illustration : mr X aged about 65 ., has an insurance of 30k .. of which 17 k is paid his son and 13k is paid by him. how deduction is available to Mr.x and Mr.x's son ? since the total amount of deduction cannot exceed 20k for a senior citizen ..

I'm not sure how this would be treated.

I think 17k deduction would be allowed to son and 13k to the father.

    Not sure....

I think Neha sharma is correct & my view also same as Neha Sharma that
    Mr.x's son will get a deduction u/s 80D of Rs. 17k and Mr. x will get a deduction u/s 80D of Rs. 13k.

Sec 80D, of the Income Tax Act,

Deduction for Health Insurance premia paid by Individual or HUF,
Where such insurance premia is paid by the Assessee, and,
Where Insured Person is not a Senior Citizen, than Max = Rs. 15,000 /-
Where Insured Person is a Senior Citizen, than Max = Rs. 20,000 /-

Just keep in mind amount under section 80 D, can't exceed Rs. 20,000 /-
