Allowances not a part of Salary - Can I still claim deduction for these Allowances?

    The employer with whom my wife works does not take medical expense deductions/LTA/mediclaim etc into consideration (small employer, does not want to take headache of accounting).

    Can she claim medical and LTA deductions while filing returns? She is maintaining all bills/records for expenses.

    These deductions can be claimed only if these allowances are a part of the Salary and are shown separately in Form 16.

    If these components dont form a part of the salary, in that case - deduction cannot be claimed.
