Those aspiring to make a career in chartered accountancy, but can't afford to get trained, can now sign up with the Vedanta College of Management and Information Technology for free coaching.

With only two to four per cent pass ratio every year, the chartered accountancy course is considered as one of the prestigious professions in India. Although it is difficult, the course offers lucrative career prospects and therefore is aspired by every student. However, with the cost of commercial coaching being high, not every student is able to enroll for it thereby leading them to abandon their dreams.

Keeping this in mind, Vedanta foundation has collaborated with the Institute of Chartered Accounts of India (ICAI) to provide free coaching to underprivileged youth who aspire to become CAs. “Every student in this programme will be fully funded by the Vedanta Foundation. Besides basic infrastructure for learning, the students are also given the required study material to prepare them for the competitive exam,” says Lona Nayak, CEO, Vedanta Foundation. In order to qualify for the coaching, students have to render a statement of income and expense signed by their respective employer, thus stating a proof of their low income background.

While the Foundation plays a major role in providing basic infrastructure for learning, scholarship, reading room facility, and complete funding for the course, ICAI, develops content, coaches and certifies for the same. Both agencies have set a target of training 300 students across India in the current academic year. “One of our coaching classes in Mumbai's central suburbs has begun and 50 students have already enrolled,” informs Nayak.

Training is being given for all three levels of CA exams, begining with the Common Proficiency Test (CPT). Students with at least 75 per cent in class XII will be eligible for CPT. For Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC) students need to have cleared the CPT, whereas those at the final level should have successfully passed the IPCC.

Students will be coached at the Vedanta College of Management and Information Technology, Thane by professionals from the ICAI. In order to provide timely guidelines to students, the foundation will hold classes across three months. “Along with timely guidelines on CA the students will be benefited in terms of required study material, library facilities with space for independent reading rooms, coaching facilities and scholarships,” signs off Nayak.
