Hi Karan - Can a journalist opt for working in a capacity of a 'Consultant' and filed returns under Section 44ADA under the presumptive taxation scheme? The annual income will be approximately 20 lakh.

No, a person working as a Journalist cannot file Returns under Section 44ADA.

Only certain specified professionals can file returns under Section 44ADA and the profession of journalism is not covered in this specified list.

Therefore, a journalist working as a consultant would be require to compute his Income as Revenue - Expenses = Profit and disclose this as income from business/profession
