ITR Utility says Income less than 90% of Form 16

    @Vivek Chandra Pandey : Yes, both the amounts would be different if there is some deduction/exemption which is not shown in the Form 16 or Form 26AS but such deduction/exemption is being claimed in the ITR

    Is it not necessary to clearly call out the exemptions under section 10
    (like leave encashment exemption) while filing return? Else 90% warning will come.

    Does 90% warning mean that such a return will be flagged and hence scrutinized?

    From this year, a lot of notices are being sent for variance between income shown in ITR and Form 16. Although it is legally correct to have such differences, however this may lead to an automatic notice being sent to you.

    The income tax officer will ask you the reason for such differences. This would be an online notice and would be required to reply to the same online only without the need to visit the income tax office
