My wife (62) and I (70) are both senior citizens. Our source of income is Interest on Bank deposits and a small pension which I draw.
We do not have any Medical Insurance cover.
I learnt that Sec 80D permits upto Rs. 5000/- reduction from Taxable income for expenses made for Medical Health Check Up.
We spend a fat sum for treatment of Osteo related problems which involves Blood tests , Scan etc.
Can we claim reduction of these test expenses under 80D?

Section 80D allows for deduction of Rs. 5,000 for Preventive Health Check-up only.

So, if it was a test for a specific problem - then it wont be allowed. However, if it was a preventive health check-up- then the deduction would be allowed.

Thank you Sir for your observation..
The Doctor treating my wife for Osteoporosis took tests of Bone density, Vit D, Calcium tests. I guess this will not be treated as Preventive test.
