My wife had paid in cash, Rs. 65000/-hospitalization bill of her father during f.y.2015-2016. Her father's age is 82 years, who has no. medical insurance, was admitted for high sugar, extreme disorientation & other old age complicatios. i want to know whether she can claim deduction of Rs. 30000/-under section 80D.

Yes, your wife can claim Deduction under Section 80D for payment of medical expenses of her father whose age is more than 80 years

Since the hospitalisation bill was paid in cash, the question arises whether the claim would qualify for deduction under S 80D or not.

I am not too sure. Let's wait for views of other members.

For claiming deduction for Hospitalisation Bills - the law does not mention anything on whether these have to be paid through cash or through bank.

Therefore, Deduction would be allowed in both the cases. You only need to keep a copy of the bill with you.
