I am working for a private school which is in the rental building, recently service tax issue arose between building owner and school authorities, when i surf through net it was mentioned that educational body is exempted from paying service tax. Yet the building owner is asking the school authorities to pay service tax by increasing the relevant percentage in monthly rent which was not told before framing the agreement. Please give some relevant details on same.

    Thank you.
  2. First of all, renting of immovable property is taxable including schools. And as per my opinion its the responsibility of school to discharge the service tax liability whether written in agreement or not.
