    In case of shares, there will be no cost of improvement.
    Cost of acquisition is the cost which was incurred to acquire the shares. If it was acquired via DMAT then you can easily get it details. Similarly if it was in physical form then it would be mentioned on the certificate.

    If it belonged to someone else (like acquire via gift or will etc) then you should check their cost.
