    Hi ,

I am salaried employee and my spouse being home maker.

During September 2015 my spouse had vocal cord surgery and it costed around 75000 and of which around 9500 I paid from my pocket and rest being paid by my insurance company.

Now during the tax filing for assessment year 2016 -2017 can I show this 9500 as expenses and get exemption on this amount? and if yes under which section?

    Thanks for you help.

You can only claim deduction in respect of health insurance premium u/s 80D. The sum of 9500 will not be specifically allowed.
