I am employed as a Professor - but as a contract employee. The institution deducts 10% as tax at source from payments made to me. I get paid Rs.200000 per month out of which Rs.20000 is deducted as tax at source.

    Now I want to know:
    1. Whether I have to register for Service tax??
    2. What type of expenses will be allowed to be deducted from amounts received by me as contract employee.
    3. Which ITR return I have to file. So far I was working in an institution with salary - so I was filing ITR 1.

Can you pl clarify on the above points??

All expenses incurred for providing this service are allowed to be claimed as an expense. Example: Petrol expenses, Mobile expenses etc.

ITR 4 is required to be filed in this case
