  1. We are manufacturing non excisable goods with nil rate of duty....and we want to take excise registration voluntarily ..... My quiry is it is possible to take voluntary registration under central excise as a manufacturer

  2. Dear G.Parthasardhy,
Yes it is. But once you get the registration under excise, the statutory compliance like periodical return filing etc. will be applicable to your company even if your excise liability is nil.
Please note that SSI exemption is also available to the manufacturer of exciseable goods in india upto the turnover of 1.5 crore.

Persons who manufacture the excisable goods, which are chargeable to nil rate of excise duty or are fully exempt from duty by Notification 36/2001‐C.E. (N.T.), dated 26‐6‐2001.

But if you get yourself register, then filing work will increase. Ultimately increasing your cost.
